Renewal of the Permanent Exhibition at the Maria Callas Museum
During the Easter season, the Maria Callas Museum invites the public for a springtime visit to the heart of Athens.
New exhibits – New stories – A new reason to visit the museum!
Remaining true to its mission of continually enriching its exhibition, the Maria Callas Museum is implementing its first major update of the permanent collection in spring 2025, following its first year of operation. Three thematic sections of the permanent exhibition are being enhanced with unique items, shedding light on new aspects of the life and work of the great 20th-century diva.

Among the new exhibits presented to the public for the first time are objects that highlight different facets of Maria Callas’s life and artistic journey. The red dress she wore at the premiere of L’homme de la Mancha in Paris, along with an elegant fan adorned with musical motifs, reflect her unique aesthetic and close connection with fashion.

Rare scores from her personal collection and the embroidered cover of her piano keys reveal her professionalism and dedication to her art, while a wooden ceremonial key to the city, offered to her during a public event in San Francisco in 1958, serves as a testament to her global recognition and international impact.

Lastly, the impressive wig she wore as Medea at La Scala in Milan evokes her iconic roles and commanding stage presence.

The items belong to the permanent collection of the Maria Callas Museum / City of Athens, and originate from an auction held in Paris in 2000, as well as from generous donations by significant collectors, such as the Hellenic Maria Callas Association and Konstantinos and Victoria Pylarinou. With respect for the exhibition’s narrative, the museum’s curatorial team has integrated the new exhibits in a way that invites visitors into a renewed experience through authentic artifacts, rare stories, and fresh connections with Callas’s personality.
The Museum invites the public—both those who have already visited and those who have not yet had the chance—to experience the magic of the exhibition and discover the new stories brought by the updated collection. Visitors may also reserve a spot on one of the museum’s scheduled guided tours to learn more about the exhibits and the stories behind them.
Take advantage of the Easter holidays for a unique cultural experience in the heart of Athens. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore a space that celebrates art, expression, and the memory of an iconic figure of the 20th century.
