European Music Day at the Maria Callas Museum

European Music Day at the Maria Callas Museum

For the second consecutive year, the Maria Callas Museum and the Friends of Music Society join forces, this time celebrating European Music Day with an open event for all, right in the heart of Athens.

On Friday, June 20, the neighborhood surrounding the Museum—directly across from its entrance, in Mitropoleos Square—will be filled with the sounds and colors of a group of young and promising musicians, performing a vibrant and unexpected repertoire.

The Music Ensembles of Camerata Junior – The Friends of MusicYouth Orchestra and orchestra In Residence of the Athens Concert Hall – invite the public to an afternoon musical journey spanning from Baroque to the 20th century, with works by Sibelius, Vanhal, Fauré, Mansell, and Mikis Theodorakis.

Orchestra Bio

Camerata Junior – The Friends of MusicYouth Orchestra and orchestra In Residence at the Athens Concert Hall was founded in 2010 as part of the Society’s educational programs. Its aim is to nurture the musical skills of young talented musicians, cultivate a spirit of collaboration, and educate them through the invaluable experience of ensemble music-making.

Since October 2018, the orchestra has been under the direction of distinguished conductor Nikos Chaliasas. In 2023, the “Music Ensembles” were formed from the orchestra’s musicians, led and taught by Aristea Tsichli, with appearances in concerts of both classical and contemporary repertoire.
