Piano Quintet of the Athens State Orchestra at the Maria Callas Museum

Piano Quintet of the Athens State Orchestra at the Maria Callas Museum

The Maria Callas Museum is delighted to collaborate for the third consecutive year with the Athens State Orchestra, hosting a special concert featuring two piano quintets that transport us into the rich and expressive world of late Romanticism, highlighting two distinct yet closely related musical traditions of Central Europe.

The two piano quintets on the program, composed in 1887 and 1914, belong to the Romantic tradition and engage in a dialogue through shared aesthetic and expressive origins. Both works draw strongly on the national musical heritage of their composers, Czech and Hungarian respectively, integrating folk elements into a refined, highly virtuosic classical form. The dynamic and equal interaction between the piano and the string instruments makes these works among the most captivating in the piano quintet repertoire.
