Orchestral Conducting Masterclass with Ektoras Tartanis
In this orchestra conducting masterclass, 4–5 students will have the opportunity to work with Ektoras Tartanis on core classical music repertoire. Over the course of two days of intensive study with a pianist and a small ensemble, each student will have a total of 80 minutes of conducting time. On the first day, the students will work on symphonic repertoire without singers. On the second day, they will delve deeper into the repertoire, with an emphasis on operatic works and rehearsing with singers. Two singers from the vocal masterclass will collaborate with the conductors and in the final stage of the masterclass, there will be a public presentation of the repertoire at the Maria Callas Museum, with the participating singers. The masterclass will include theoretical guidance, the transmission of essential knowledge, as well as hands-on work on selected pieces.
Masterclass Objective
The aim of the masterclass is to provide students with a practical insight into the conductor’s role in the opera world. They will gain an understanding of the opportunities and challenges of the profession and will be able to engage not just theoretically, but in real-life musical interaction with instrumentalists and vocalists.

Information
Who it is for
The masterclass is aimed at senior students, graduates, professional musicians, and anyone interested in exploring practical aspects of orchestra conducting in opera. The masterclass will accommodate up to 5 active participants and will be open for observation by 20 auditors. Applicants must complete the online application form by October 5, attaching a link to a 10-minute video in which the candidate conducts an orchestra or two pianos. Those wishing to attend the masterclass as auditors must submit their application form along with their resume by October 5.

Ektoras Tartanis
Ectoras Tartanis was born in Stuttgart to Greek parents. He composed his first works at the age of 12 and began conducting at 15, laying the foundation for his professional career as a composer and conductor. He studied music theory, composition, and orchestral conducting at the University of Music in Stuttgart, and continued his conducting studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz, where he graduated with distinction.In 2021, he received the Special Prize at the Khachaturian International Conducting Competition in Yerevan, Armenia, and was awarded the Karolos Koun Prize as “Young Artist of the Year 2022/23.”
Tartanis currently serves as Principal Conductor of the Lower Bavarian Philharmonic and has been First Kapellmeister at the Freiburg Theater since the 2019/20 season.
He worked for several years as musical assistant to Teodor Currentzis, from whom he received formative artistic influence. His works are published by Universal Edition.
