The Maria Callas Museum brings a festive music-theatre experience to the “Agia Sofia” Children’s Hospital

Following the highly successful series of music-education workshops held in spring 2025, the Maria Callas Museum of the City of Athens returns to the “Agia Sofia” Children’s Hospital on Friday, 19 December 2025, offering a new initiative designed to bring joy, imagination and festive warmth to children who are hospitalised or staying at the facility.

This year, the Museum presents a special Christmas experience:
“The Nutcracker’s Dream: An Immersive Christmas Music-Theatre Storytelling.”

Inspired by The Story Orchestra – The Nutcracker by Katy Flint (Patakis Publishers), the programme invites children into an imaginative, hands-on journey where the magical world of the Nutcracker comes to life through music and theatrical narration. The children become co-creators of the story, shaping their own musical and imaginative worlds and crafting a personal, dream-like version of the tale.

With live piano, warm storytelling and the active participation of the children, the hospital environment is transformed, even briefly, into a stage filled with festive atmosphere, wonder and enchanting images.

The experience is designed and delivered by the Maria Callas Museum’s educational team, in collaboration with composer and programme creator Markella Skourti, as part of the Museum’s ongoing commitment to making its cultural identity accessible in innovative and inclusive ways. The partnership with the “Agia Sofia” Children’s Hospital continues with great enthusiasm and support from the Hospital’s Board and nursing staff, who warmly embrace initiatives that contribute to the emotional resilience and overall well-being of the children.
