String Quartet of the Athens State Orchestra at the Maria Callas Museum<\/strong><\/h3>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”64px”][vc_column_text]The Maria Callas Museum is delighted to collaborate for a second year with the Athens State Orchestra, hosting a unique concert by its distinguished musicians, titled “Eastern Roots.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The concert takes us on a journey from the 19th to the 20th century through Eastern Europe. Featuring works by Borodin, Shostakovich, and Kurt\u00e1g, the program highlights the contrasts between romanticism and modernism, while also revealing the bridges that unite the different musical languages of the era.<\/span><\/p>\n

A passage from the 19th to the 20th century in Eastern Europe, through the works of Borodin, Shostakovich, and Kurt\u00e1g. Borodin was one of the leading figures of Russian romanticism, and his Second Quartet is one of his most beloved works\u2014a brilliant example of this movement. From the repertoire of the much more widely known Shostakovich, one of the most popular composers of the 20th century, we will hear two rarely performed pieces\u2014<\/span>Elegy<\/b><\/span> and <\/span>Polka<\/b><\/span> for string quartet\u2014as well as his brief <\/span>Seventh Quartet<\/b><\/span>. Gy\u00f6rgy Kurt\u00e1g is a figure whose presence in Central European musical life has spanned more than eighty years and exceeds even his compositional output. His <\/span>Twelve Microludes<\/b><\/span>, a work dedicated to his close friend, Hungarian cellist and composer Mih\u00e1ly Andr\u00e1s, will also be performed.<\/span><\/p>\n
